Griffin, Redick Out For Clippers
By Randy Renner
About three hours before tipoff the Thunder announced they were recalling forward Mitch McGary from the OKC Blue, the thought being with Kendrick Perkins suspended for today's game McGary would be needed to help out on Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
McGary may still get some playing time but things changed dramatically about an hour and a half before tipoff when the Clippers announced that Griffin, the former OU star and Oklahoma City native, will fly back to Los Angeles today and have surgery tomorrow on his right elbow. Griffin has a staph infection in the elbow that requires immediate surgery.
Clippers coach Doc Rivers said he found out yesterday about Griffin and he told reprters before the game that Spencer Hawes would start in Griffin's spot. The Clips will also be without shooting guard J.J. Redick and may also be without guard Austin Rivers.
The Thunder will not have Perkins because of a suspension handed down by the NBA yesterday in reaction to Perkins head butt of Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans on Friday night.
Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said he will be depending on Adams to defend as best he can without fouling since Perk will not be available.
Without Griffin though the Clippers may be tempted to go small against the Thunder but if Redick and Rivers are both out that will impact that strategy as well.
Tipoff is set for noon on ABC, we'll have complete postgame coverage as usual here on the website with comments from Coach Brooks and from players in the lockerroom. You can also follow live game action on our Twitter feed page.
